Prescribing and Referral
After your assessment, the pharmacist may recommend self-care, an over-the-counter product, prescription treatment when appropriate, or referral to a physician, nurse practitioner, urgent care, or emergency care.
Prescribing is not guaranteed and depends on the pharmacist's assessment, clinical appropriateness, patient safety, and applicable Alberta pharmacy standards.
This service does not replace your doctor, specialist, nurse practitioner, or emergency care.
Call 911 or seek urgent care if you have chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe allergic reaction, fainting, signs of stroke, severe pain, confusion, high fever with worsening symptoms, severe dehydration, symptoms in a young infant, symptoms during pregnancy that are severe or concerning, or symptoms that are rapidly worsening.
Urinary symptom note: Some urinary symptoms may require referral, including symptoms during pregnancy, symptoms in individuals assigned male at birth, recurrent symptoms shortly after treatment, fever, back/flank pain, blood in urine, or symptoms in immunocompromised patients.
