Minor illnesses (also known as minor ailments) are typically “common” or “uncomplicated” conditions that resolve for most individuals with minimal intervention that may include over-the-counter medications, self-care strategies or prescription treatment. Examples of minor illnesses include bladder/urinary tract infection, cold sores, skin rash, heartburn, allergies and many more.
Pharmacists can assess the minor ailment and symptoms you are experiencing and prescribe an appropriate treatment, recommend over-the-counter medications and self-care strategies as appropriate. Pharmacist assessments and treatment plans for minor ailments provide Canadians with an additional way to access convenient, efficient, and high-quality care.
After a minor ailment assessment, the Pharmacist will advise you on how to best manage the ailment. The Pharmacist may prescribe a treatment, recommend an over-the-counter treatment option, recommend self-care strategies, or refer you to a Physician for further assessment.
